What the Hell was that All About? #2

Like I said there shall be enough material to make this ad busting into a series. In fact I have to restrain myself on most occasions when watching some of the "new" stuff on air at the moment.
Millions of Rupees and in some cases Dollars are spent on a few seconds and the following is sometimes what gets dished out. We start with the Fanta commercial with Rani Mukherjee making some weird sounds to an equally obnoxious soundtrack/jingle. The visual realm also suffers here with what seem to be the single most barf inducing graphics ever in an ad. There is no thought behind this project. If there is please let me know and put me out of my misery.
The high point of the ad is when they rhyme the words, "P.K. Bose" with, "Fanta ka dose". How this ad ever got on air is anyone's guess. My heartfelt condolences to the client.
Next on this list of shame is the latest Clipsal switch ad where, this lady seemingly a helper dressed in an over sized white frock is going about doing her dusting albeit rather grudgingly. We see a horrible Plaster of Paris statue scaring the crap out of her as well as us, and then for apparently no reason what so ever she flings some books towards this switchboard on the wall. Then again for no reason at all, the entire house begins to crumble. Things around the house come crashing down as if she has hit a switch that controls high magnitude earthquakes. Once again what's going on here and more importantly why - has got me in a right twist.
Maybe one day I shall have answers to my humble queries.
What has to be my favorite or should I say my anti-favorite recently though has to be the new Indica Diesel ad. You know the one that takes forever to setup and flashes you the actual product on sale so quickly that it seems like they almost don't want to show it to you. Usually teasers are only 5 to 10 seconds long. What we have here is like a 50 second ad with a 45 second setup. And a 5 second product shot, which is so blurry that you, cannot see much anyway.
Why oh why is this happening. May be TATA has too much money and they don't know what to do with it. Showing a guy setting up a fishing seat in the middle of a lake for so long and then barely showing the actual product that's on sale seems like an unsuccessful attempt at hoodwinking the masses. Why do we have to be so clever? Why do we need to waste 50 seconds selling something we don't actually show?
I am full of questions swimming around in my head that are drowning me.... Help!

Glamor of Bollywood Sarees

Sarees- "is it a rising trend in fashion"'? When was it ever out of fashion? No matter how many kinds of clothing and fashion come to the Bollywood industry, sarees as an epitome of classic beautiful regalia will always outshine the rest. Haven't you noticed how saree makes everyone look graceful? And by 'everyone'- I mean every woman irrespective of color, race, ethnicity etc.
The age old apparel is still trending and it will continue to do so for as long as the civilization may last with or without fashion. You do know about the Bollywood and its glamour, right? The industry buzzes with very well adorned celebrities making statements wearing exquisite ethnic dresses every time they release a Bollywood movie.
Funny how Valentino's and Prada's are complimentary in Bollywood which will not suffice to make a fashion statement alone! For saree is in itself a fusion. It portrays a homogeneous blend of Hinduism and Muslim era. So how can it ever go out of fashion? The answer is never. Besides giving the appeal of a good, cultured and independent woman, there is more to the garment- its timeless which makes it a classic and elegant, its versatility makes it to be always trending. No matter how westernized Bollywood becomes, no matter how many kissing scenes it may adopt but our Bollywood actresses will never let go of this ''Desi-drape''. The ever-so-evolving drapery is never absolute because of its versatility. It was a fashion statement before, it still is and always will be. However, do not assume it to be 'stagnant'. The vogue is constantly trending and its mantra is an 'adopted evolution'.
One new direction of sarees is the adoption of lehenga sarees. No doubt, it's still undergoing modification every day. New styles emerge when it comes to the highly competitive world of fashion industry and rising designers. Since last year, 'half-sarees', a hybrid of lehenga and traditional sarees is the new Bollywood Black. What's more beautiful added to this invention is that besides being an easy wear unlike traditional sarees, it comes along with the dupattas which highlight the glamour of Bollywood. Rani Mukherjee in her recent appearance was wearing a bright pink designer half saree with floral patterns on it. She looked beautiful. Isn't that what sarees are suppose to do? Half- sarees are just amazing.
Sarees as an elegant, traditional attire hardly needs a makeover. There are times when a simple traditional saree becomes the attraction in otherwise dull party. A bride in the Indian subcontinent always prefers to wear red sarees or contrasting bright colors. It is usually worn on the 'mehendi' function or on the reception day. Fabrics like silk, chiffon, Kanchivaram and Banarasi are used for saree, however silky material fits the best for the occasion. The heavily embellished sarees with zaris are always a head-turner. It is not just the bride, but every female guest attending the occasion adorns herself to look the best and definitely in saree one cannot go wrong. It suits every'body's shape and size.
The story of saree is not just confined to the Indian subcontinent. Its popularity is widespread across the seven seas. Even Hollywood is inspired by this traditional attire. I wouldn't be wrong to state that even Hollywood cannot resist Bollywood - from the Hotel Heiress Paris Hilton to my personal favorite Blake Lively to the super model Naomi Campbell and (woman who needs no introduction) Oprah Winfrey have promoted the sarees and have inspired designer apparel styles safely termed as ''Indo-Western gown'' styles. Indian ethnic wear is escalating in the global market and who else can better promote it than influential celebrities themselves!
However the credit should definitely go to the Bollywood actresses for putting the Indian saree on the global map. The glitterati of Bollywood is amplified in this ethnic wear. You can see how amazing and glamorous Bollywood is with its representative saree as its first face. Sarees have become a must-have for all the women around the world and its occasion have surpassed just the bridal days. Celebrities now wear it to the Red Carpet events or any formal occasion which proves how respected the attire is.
Black being the chicest color to be worn, it is no surprise that celebrities these days prefer black sarees over the little black dresses. From pop-stars to models, all rock the lacy black sarees highly embellished with rich sequins and beads or simply plain translucent sarees speak volumes in elegance.
Naomi Campbell and Nicole of the band Pussycat Dolls were spotted flaunting the black desi drape in international events. The popularity of this attire is amazing. At the same time 'color' is a quintessential signature of Bollywood. Our very own celebrities like to adopt variety and glitter and we cannot disagree with the trendsetters. For example Aishwarya Rai Bachan on her post-baby period wore the most amazing sarees that pleased the eye of the onlooker.
Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar etc have gripped global attention with their beautiful designs always giving a new edge to this ethnic wear that fascinates the world- therefore, saree will never be chucked at the back of a woman's wardrobe.

Influence of Bollywood on Indian Clothing

These days, men and women are very conscious of what fashion they follow and what attire they wear. Bollywood has always exerted a tremendous influence on fashion wear in India. Celebrities set the trend for what would be in vogue in a season. The anarkali salwar, which is a rage these days, was first featured in the film Mughal-e-Azam. Rani Mukherjee sported short kurtis in the film Bunty Aur Babli, which quickly became a hit with the girls. The tops worn by Kareena in the movie Jab we Met soon became a trend for women in the country. Bollywood has also considerably influenced the way the saree is draped. New fashionable styles of wearing this sexy outfit have emerged over time. The modern twist to the saree has led to its resurgence among the youth. The sarees flaunted by Priyanka Chopra in the movie Dostana and Sushmita Sen in Mai Hoon Na made fabulous statements. The popular actor Rekha set the trend for Kanjiveram silk sarees with her donning the heavy resplendent fabric at every occasion. Strap blouses also gained popularity from the movies. They quickly became the trend at social events and weddings. The market for Bollywood-inspired attire has greatly evolved over the years. Whatever dress you find your favorite actors wearing, you too can buy at affordable prices at your nearest mall. The choices that are open to consumers these days are limitless. Whether it is the bell-bottoms that became popular in the 70s and 80s, or the low waist jeans of today, Bollywood continues to exert its influence on what young India should wear. You can now buy Jab We Met patialas, Parineeta blouses, Veer Zara suits and so on. The Indian male now sport designer wear, trendy hairstyles and are better groomed thanks to the fashion statements made by actors such as Arjun Rampal, Shahrukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bacchan, Shahid Kapoor, and Hrithik Roshan in their films. Several leading designers choose to introduce their designs through films instead of the ramp. This has led to the actors sporting more fashionable outfits in films than before. Bollywood has always played a major role in the life of Indians no matter which part of the world they reside in. The trends set by the Hindi films can be found all over the country. Going by the huge popularity of the outfits, it seems Bollywood will continue to affect the fashion sensibilities of the Indian masses for a long time.

What Happened in Bollywood on 3-4 December 2010?

Rani Mukherjee at "No One Killed Jessica" song release event What we liked? Rani Mukherjee's official skirt! As the talented actress plays a hard-core journo in the movie No One Killed Jessica, for the event she came dressed according to her character. Though the lady is not quite a fashionista, her choice of dress was more than welcome to us. Rani teamed white shirt with Moulinette Soeurs Wall Street Skirt and looked stylish, office chic. The printed skirt turned out to be a fascinating piece. Sexy Malaika Arora gears up for "Jhalak Dikhla Ja" The Indian version of Dancing With Stars, Jhalak Dikhla Ja will start soon, and things are pretty charged up because this season the show will see dancing diva of big screen Madhuri Dixit as judge on the show. Giving her company will Malaika Arora and Remo D'Souza. Malaika attended a promotional event over the weekend at Filmistan Studio, Mumbai, where she was announced the third judge at the show. The stunning female turned many heads with her yet-again glam look. The off-shoulder beige coloured gown was looking gorgeous on her. She loves styling and we love her for that. MS Dhoni & John Abraham turn hairstylists When Dhoni and John Abraham turned hair stylists for one day! It was an event at Mad-O-Wet salon in Mumbai, stylist Sapna Bhavani was part of it along with John and Dhoni. Not only the two gelled well over hairy issues, they styled each other's hair using serum, spray and gel. Well, it's no surprise that the two celebs also endorse hair products. There were many cameramen present at the event and also Dhoni's pretty wife Sakshi Rawat who was spotted at the event enjoying seeing the two getting naughty. Ajab dostana hai, why wives or girlfriends should mind? Katrina Kaif in red at Zee Rishtey Awards 2010 How can a TV award show look complete without Bollywood stars? Katrina Kaif was in red at Zee Rishtey Awards 2010. Yes, it seems nowadays red is quite a colour for B-Town babes. Katrina's overwhelming dress was by Sharab Durrazi, but couldn't do much for the actress who looks naturally beautiful. We just hope Kat updates her fashion sense. Not only she was a letdown at the event, others present there, especially TV actresses, almost all disappointed with their attires at the award function. Farah Khan kept it simple and was spotted in a black kurta. Be ready to see more of Kat as Tees Maar Khan release is approaching close. Check it out these Gorgeous Bollywood Actresses! Saris - Indian Fashion Borrows A Page From Bollywood

Bollywood is the fashion trendsetter in India. Despite living in a modern age, the entertainment industry continues to shape the fashion sensibilities of millions of Indians residing in different countries of the world. You might say no, but we have proof of it. Can we forget those short kurtis worn by Rani Mukherjee in the movie Bunty Aur Babli, Kareena Kapoor's T-Shirt salwar combo in Jab We Met and the Anarkali borrowed from a grand period film Mughal-e-Azam? We wore them till we could wear them no more. Bollywood has also influenced and redefined India's traditional wear - Sari. A sari is a length of cloth measuring 6 or 9 yards. Although, also used by men in earlier centuries, today it is an exclusively feminine garment. It exudes elegance and grace. With over 300 draping styles, it is one of the oldest clothing trends. The traditional sari saw a few bad times in the 20th century as people started favoring western-styled clothing, but thanks to Bollywood and the small screen, it made its comeback with a bang. As hip Bollywood actresses Sushmita Sen (Main Hoon Naa) and Priyanka Chopra (Dostana) donned a sari on the silver screen, almost every household and working woman desired to put her best foot forward in a sari. An Indian Bride's Dream - Kanjivaram and Banarasi Silk Bollywood is all about glitz and glamour in its style and in the fashion trends it sets, but at the same time, it has pioneered the trend of Kanjivaram Saris. Veteran actress Rekha has popularised this silk and gold weave. In fact, it is her signature style as she dons a rich-textured drape to all the wedding ceremonies, award functions and social gatherings she attends. And, each time she wears one, she carries it with élan. Kanjivaram saris are known for their resplendent designs. Hence, they are the best choice of bridal wear. Spaghetti Strap Blouses - A Chic Ensemble Probably the boldest alteration to a conservative style such as a sari was the spaghetti strap blouse. The style has been epitomized by none other than the sassy and petite Mandira Bedi at the time of the cricket World Cup way back in 2003. Spaghetti blouse saris are revealing but not indecent. It is this style that is the running style in Bollywood and a style lapped up by commoners at weddings and social occasions. Pocket Saris - An Evolving Legend If you love the ease that comes with having pockets on your clothing and hence prefer a pair of jeans to a sari, you're mistaken. Indian designers are continuously experimenting with design to increase the comfort and practicality of a sari. A tiny pocket stitched to the side, just below the waist, allows a working woman to go hands free. It is wide enough to hold your phone or your iPod and thereby makes sure you're not cut off from technology despite your traditional attire. The 6-yard goes abroad While the sari has made its place in every Indian closet, the Indian garment has also captivated the Westerners. The love for saris has gone global. The dusky beauty Naomi Campbell, the gorgeous Victoria Beckham, the sultry Cameron Diaz, rich and famous Oprah Winfrey and a bevy of tennis players have donned a sari to charity functions or walked the ramp in one. It's time to go SHOPPING! The market for Bollywood-inspired designs has matured greatly over the years. Not only is it possible to get your hands on a sari worn by an actress, but you can also get it in a color and texture of your choice. There is a wide collection of meticulously hand-woven saris to machine-embroidered shimmering drapes, from deep shades to delicate pastels. The choice is open to you. It is best to buy Bollywood Saris online because of the choice available to you. There are online stores that offer a made-to-order option too that help you to revive an ancient style and design. Besides, with offers such as Deal of the Day India, you can get beautiful saris at discounted prices. From above, it is quite clear that we choose to wear what we see. After seeing several seasons, the sari is today viewed as one of the most glamorous outfits. It flatters the female form when draped flawlessly. It is an every occasion garment. So, here's to the eternal sari. If you're looking for a good and reasonable collection of Bollywood-inspired sarees here's one website you can look-up in your leisure time.

Bollywood Movie Review - Black

The movie, Black, was the main winner at 2005 Indian Filmfare Awards winning eleven awards in total, breaking a record as a result. It then went on to win 10 awards in the 2006 IIFA Awards ceremony. Time Magazine (Europe) selected the film as one of the 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from across the globe. The movie was positioned at number five. It was also listed on the "25 Must See Bollywood Movies" by Filmfare Magazine.

Story:

Black is the story of blind and deaf girl (acted by Rani Mukherjee) who has been in darkness since she was born. No one, not even her parents, are able to help her in any way until an old alcoholic teacher, Debraj Sahai (acted by Amitabh Bachan), enters her life and takes on a mammoth of a task of bringing the young girl into light and ensuring her graduation from a normal college. The film is similar to the story of Helen Keller.

Screenplay:

Superb acting is produced by well-renowned veteran Amitabh Bachan and multiple award winning actress Rani Mukherjee. Probably this is the finest ever performance of Rani Mukherjee. Her turning point in acting came from the movie, Hey Ram whereby she claimed that Kamal Hassan changed the actress within her and indeed it was a very successful change. One is able to feel the pain and sufferings experienced by the girl and admire the determination and patience given by her teacher.

Cinematography:

Cinematography is very well done by providing the appropriate lighting to create the suitable mood and atmosphere such as the scene of the young girl.

Video Editing:

Not much video editing can be expected from this movie since the focus is on the story and the deep portrayal of the characters. However, few scenes like the one where Rani Mukherjee enjoys the snow are well edited.
